HYDERABAD: So far restricted to either documentaries or serious films that fell in the parallel cinema category, a Hyderabad-based NGO is now making an attempt to mainstream the subject of sex trafficking. Prajwala, which is involved in the rescue of trafficking victims has now come out with a film due to release in September that aims at addressing the issue without making it too serious.
The film that will be released in both Telugu and Malayalam is based on a true story that revolves around the subject of sex trafficking and is woven around a father-daughter relationship.
Titled 'Prathyayam' which means trust in Telugu and 'Ente' that means mine in Malayalam, the film is a joint production of Prajwala and L'oeuvre Leger, that funds community groups in Latin America, Africa and Asia. Acting in the film is Siddique, a known figure in the Malayalam film industry and Anjali Patil. The high point of the film is going to be its music score that has been given by Shantanu Moitra.
"This is a full-length feature film made for mass viewing. People assume that a movie with a subject like this would be serious but we have taken care to make it like a family film," said Sunitha Krishnan, founder of Prajwala, who incidentally only recently featured in Aamir Khan's Satyamev Jayate for the work she is doing for victims of trafficking. The film is directed by Rajesh Touchriver, who happens to be Krishnan's husband.
